The Rising Sun Inn Museum and Historic Site houses the Lt. Henry Baldwin Family Research Library. The Baldwin family presence in Anne Arundel County dates to the early 1700s, and while prominent in their own right, they also intermarried with many of the other important Anne Arundel County and Maryland families - Worthington, Woodward, Howard, Hammond, Rawlings, Warfield, Gambrill, and Ridgely.
The library collection includes books, journals, photographs, genealogies, and correspondence from the family and descendants of Henry Baldwin. Additionally, the collection includes newspapers, clippings, photographs, programs, and other memorabilia from the Ann Arundel Chapter covering the Chapter's century old history and the acquisition, restoration, and maintenance of the Rising Sun Inn, as well as local, county, and state history and historical events.
Due to the fragile nature of the original, primary source documents, the collection is available for viewing by appointment only. To schedule, email [email protected].
New Library Digitization Project Approved
The Friends of the Rising Sun Inn Board of Directors has approved a new project, establishing the Lt. Henry Baldwin Family Digital Research Library. This project will include the digitization of the majority of the current collection and will allow it to be more broadly available to the research community through a searchable digital library. Currently, the Board is pursing grant funding and consulting with experts on best practices.
